THE STEVE SILVER FOUNDATION AND BEACH BLANKET BABYLON ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 2011 "SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ARTS"
$10,000 CASH SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO THREE BAY AREA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
San Francisco, CA - (June 7, 2011) Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced last night the three Bay Area high school winners of The Steve Silver Foundation & Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts." The event featured a Glee-inspired opening performance of "Don't Stop Believin'" by the cast of Beach Blanket Babylon.
Out of nine finalists who performed in the live competition at Club Fugazi, Darius Drooh (Dance) from Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts in San Francisco, Jessica Chanliau (Acting) from Marin School of the Arts in Novato and Jillian Butler (Voice) from Liberty High School in Brentwood each walked away with $10,000 towards their college education.
The celebrity panel of judges included San Francisco Ballet's Principal Character Dancer & Choreographer Val Caniparoli, singer, actor and artist Franc D'Ambrosio, KGO Radio's Jerry Friedman, Composer Gordon Getty, KMEL's Chuy Gomez, California Shakespeare Theater's Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone, American Conservatory Theater's Artistic Director Carey Perloff, ABC7's Don Sanchez, KRON4/KCBS Radio's Jan Wahl and jazz & cabaret singer Paula West. Star 101.3's Don Bleu served as Master of Ceremonies.
Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has a long-standing commitment to philanthropic efforts in the community and has been involved with numerous charities and organizations including American Conservatory Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, the UCSF Cancer Center, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Child Abuse Prevention Society, AIDS Emergency Fund, among others.
