“SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ARTS”

THREE $15,000 CASH SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO THREE BAY AREA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

SAN FRANCISCO — (June 4, 2019), Last night, Jo Schuman Silver—producer of Steve Silver’s Beach Blanket Babylon—announced the three Bay Area high school winners of The Steve Silver Foundation & Beach Blanket Babylon 2019 “Scholarship for the Arts.”

Out of the nine finalists who performed in the live competition at Club Fugazi, Kyleigh Colchico (Dance) from Clayton Valley Charter High School in Concord performing to “Leave A Light On,” Dante Cokinos (Acting) from Novato High School in Novato performing a monologue from Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau, and Armand Akbari (Voice) from Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, performing “Later” from A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim, each walked away last night with $15,000 to be used for their college education.

The celebrity panel of judges included: Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Tracy Chapman, actor and American political satirist Will Durst, composer and philanthropist Gordon Getty, Q102.1’s Chuy Gomez, Suzanne Grodner, cast member from the national tour of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, famed opera composer Jake Heggie, SFJAZZ Center’s Founder and Executive Artistic Director Randall Kline, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ Chief Producer Jonathan Moscone, ODC Founder and Artistic Director Brenda Way, and jazz and cabaret singer Paula West.

Steve Silver’s Beach Blanket Babylon has a long-standing commitment to philanthropic efforts in the community and has been involved with numerous charities and organizations including AIDS Emergency Fund, Child Abuse Prevention Society, Delancey Street Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Meals on Wheels San Francisco, San Francisco General Hospital Foundation, and UCSF Cancer Center, among others.
