What are the important dates for the “Scholarship for the Arts” program?
Monday, March 4th
Scholarship contest begins
Friday, April 26th at 11:59 p.m. (PST)
All entries must be uploaded by this date and time
April 27th-May 5th
Selection committee will choose 3 finalists from each category
Monday, May 6th
Finalists will be notified by phone and results will be posted on social media and this website
Monday, June 3rd
Finalists perform live at Club Fugazi in San Francisco starting at 7:30 p.m.; winners will be chosen.
Can I apply for more than one category?
No, students are only able to apply in one category.
Is there a specific genre of music, style of dance, or style of monologue that I should focus on?
No, students should choose a song, dance, or monologue that shows off their talent the best. There are no restrictions on what kind of piece they can choose.
I play an instrument; can you make an exception and let me audition?
No, unfortunately the program is only offered to Vocal, Dance, and Acting participants.
Is this scholarship based on grades and financial needs?
No, this scholarship is based entirely on talent.
Do I have to attend an accredited post-secondary institution in order to win the $15,000 scholarship?
Yes, the $15,000 scholarship is to be put towards higher education purposes. The applicant does not have to attend a 4-year university. They can be accepted into a performing arts academy (AMDA, etc.). All winners must attend an accredited post-secondary institution within one year of winning the scholarship.
I have friends that are seniors at other high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area; can I tell them about it?
Of course! Please tell as many of your friends about the scholarship (as long as they are a senior in high school and attend a high school, or are home schooled, within 100 miles of Club Fugazi).
